What a surprise.

When you've stayed somewhere that is truly outstanding, how do you write a review that accurately reflects the experience without it sounding as though it's a bogus review? Our stay at Satellite Island really was that good, and the dilemma about how to write the review is true. All I can do is to allow my e-mail address to be published and say that Im happy to be contacted to verify our experience. And what an experience it was. We have had a hectic year at work and were both pretty much exhausted, so the prospect of seclusion on an island was irresistible. The island looks beautiful on the website (www.satelliteisland.com.au) so the booking was duly made, and the process was easy and efficient. We received lots of information about the island, places to go on Bruny and in Tasmania. So far pretty normal and we filed everything away and looked forward to our short break. We flew from Sydney direct to Hobart, and had pre-arranged to collect a hamper of food for our stay from The Wursthaus (highly recommended also).

From there it was onto a catamaran cruise and we travelled down to Peppermint Bay in comfort and with a glass of bubble in hand. Lunch was had at Peppermint Bay and we called the island manager as arranged. However, it turned out that he had been called away at short notice and he told us to call Kate and Will the owners. Its here that our experience went from a normal holiday to simply outstanding. Kate and Will had flown down from their home in Melbourne to Hobart for the day, just to take us across to the island. We were frankly quite staggered, you just don't come across that sort of service almost anywhere now.So we hopped aboard their boat, and after a slightly bumpy trip across to the island we arrived at our own slice of paradise for the next few days. The island is of course beautiful, and we were duly shown around the home, because that's what it is, not a motel room, or sparsely appointed holiday house, this was like having your own home in a different location.

I read a definition that the very best customer service is where your every need is anticipated, and that is certainly the case on Satellite Island. When we arrived there were freshly shucked oysters in the fridge, a bottle of bubble and chocolates. The scene for the holiday was set!The kitchen is very well appointed, with utensils, pots of every type, a variety wine glasses, crockery etc. and a generous selection of kitchen staples, good olive oil, balsamic vinegar and much more. The house is heated with a wood fire, which was certainly needed during our visit and there was a plentiful supply of wood and kindling etc.On the waterfront just below the house is a jetty with shed, and in the shed there was a table with tablecloth and chairs ready to be just moved outside for the perfect picnic, and in fact we had our lunch on the end of the jetty each day with spectacular view up the channel to Bruny and Tasmania. There are also kayaks and fishing rod, with fresh bait.Although we only on the island for a few days, it was completely relaxing and we felt that we'd had a much longer break. So if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful and beautiful retreat this is the place to go.

Slow down, simplify and reconnect...

We returned from our stay on Satellite Island refreshed. We arrived laden with good food and wine, which we had sourced from the information you had kindly provided. Richard greeted us warmly and we were soon enjoying the welcome sight of the fire as we unloaded and settled in. We awoke to bright sunshine and spent the next 2 days fishing, sleeping, reading, and walking. Generally enjoying the peaceful retreat. The view over the channel is so beautiful, and included the sight of many snowcapped peaks on the main island. We explored around Lewis Point shoreline, and soon discovered some fossils. We found the house generously stocked with kitchen essentials that made our stay all the more enjoyable. The beds are comfortable, throw rugs were welcome for naps on the couch. Our stay gave us the opportunity to slow down, simplify and reconnect.

Perfect

We were intrigued by your web ad, chairs, rocks and fishing rod after so much glitch and glamour. That's the one for us.
Thankyou for having Satellite Island to offer us. The accommodation was lovely, comfy, great warmth, views and as the the hidden cupboard of goodie! So unexpected, I was able to enhance our food to treat status.
Richard's service, camaradie, assistance and promptness was excellent.
The location stands for itself, all serene with the most spectacular vistas. The cliff top walks, the rural walks spotting deer, wildlife and birdlife, such beautiful solitude one normally only dreams of.
The best feature, such a comfortable bed, rarely found when one travels and what we disliked most was having to leave.
Thanks a million, we intend to be back.

Private, unique and idyllic.

We were picked up at the jetty by Richard, the caretaker, in his boat and taken across the D'Entrecasteaux Channel to the island. There followed 12 days of serenity. No cars, no people, children could run free. Kayaking and fishing. Sitting on the balcony with an unread book on your lap, gazing at a 360 degree view of the ocean. Going around the beaches with Richard, sharing his encyclopaedic knowledge of marine life with our children. The timid wild deer on the island. Kids chilling out- my six year old daughter playing cards with her cousins, wearing only a pair of shorts. Eating fish we caught. Being run across to Bruny Island by the ever obliging Richard, and stocking up on cheese, oysters, salmon and gourmet treats, or waiting for a yummy dinner at the pub. Sitting on the deck with a glass of wine, while the salmon cooked on the barbecue. Knowing you didn't have to go anywhere afterwards. Going on walks around the island, kids playing hide and seek using the walkie talkies. Lighting the open fire on cool nights. Great for a group of friends or family. House was in modern beach house style and attractively fitted out. Richard ran us around in the boat whenever we liked. Handy to Bruny Island with its gourmet treats, beaches and restaurant. I could go on and on. We came home and booked for next year.

Satellite Island was a truly special place.

Satellite Island was a truly special place to relax, unwind and spend quality time as a family. We all loved the many walks around the Island, fishing, bird spotting and marshmallow toasting. When the day was done, nothing beat putting on the fire and sitting back watching the world go by as the sun set over the water from your own private piece of heaven.

What a surprise.

My partner and I visited Satellite Island as a surprise for his birthday and what a surprise it was! The location is amazing and the house very well-appointed with comfy beds, lovely linen and a pantry stocked with quality goods. Sneaking around the island to catch a glimpse of the resident deer and collecting fresh oysters off the rock-shelf were highlights. Richard, the island manager, couldn't do enough for us - he lit the fire for our arrival and even delivered fresh eggs to our door. I highly recommend Satellite as a secluded couples' getaway and it would be equally lovely with a group of friends. Rating 5/5

Expectations exceeded

Dear Kate
How could our stay possibly exceed expectations after all the media hype Satellite Island has had?!
We were so completely and utterly rested and restored by our stay with you. The design and detail were a particular source of delight and discovery and the generosity of spirit evident in abundance wherever one looked!
We painted, photographed, star gazed, paddled, dived, cooked, feasted, quizzed, told stories , drank wine and so much more...
Thank you and a particular thank you to Richard whose company we thoroughly enjoyed.

We will be back on Satellite Island soon!
Congratulations on every front!
Fond regards
Asha

We loved everything

Kate,

This is just a note to thank you for enabling our family to enjoy a very special holiday on your beautiful island.

We loved everything about it.

We had great weather.

We loved fishing. Our kids ate the fish they caught within hours of the catch. They thought that was so very cool.

We loved walking around the island. The views. The scenery. Just fabulous.

We loved feeding the deer.

The kids loved hunting for fossils.

The Summer House was beautiful and so stylish. And those views. The pantry was full of beautiful food.

Sleeping at the Boathouse was magic.

The glamping tent was so much fun and again - just beautifully decked out and so very comfortable and relaxing. Our kids really want one!!

Thank you for the champagne and smoked fish on our arrival. They were gorgeous and such a nice touch that we really appreciated.

And a very special thank you to Richard. He was just wonderful. The hospitality, time and patience he extended to us, and our kids, was just amazing. He made our holiday so relaxing and special.

Thank you again so much.

Kind regards,

Scott
